Guidelines for Burn Permit Issuance
- Winds must be less than 10 MPH at the time the permit inspection is approved. If winds speeds increase, the property owner must be willing to extinguish the fire immediately.
- Authorization to burn will only be approved directly prior to the actual time of burning.
- No plastic, tar, rubber, chemicals, hazardous material or shingles can be burned. Only biodegradable items such as wood, leaves, trees, etc. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to identify any/all materials to be burned to the inspector.
- The area for burning must be away from trees, shrubbery, houses, power lines and vehicles as authorized by the inspector. It is suggested that you notify your neighbors of your intent to burn, if possible, to alleviate undue alarm.
- Occupant must have water hose that is long enough to reach the burn area with the exception of those personnel burning more than one acre.
- Fire should be attended at all times and out by sunset.
- It items or area to be burned are close to a major road, no burning will be allowed if the wind would carry the smoke onto the roadway and obscure the vision of drivers.
- Any other conditions that appear to be unsafe can warrant refusal of a burn permit.
- Anyone violating any provision of this permit may be fined in accordance with the provisions set forth in Chapter 11, Article 3, Section 11-40 of the City of Newcastle, Oklahoma, Municipal Code.
